What is it

The Proline Promag W 300 is an electromagnetic flowmeter (magmeter) designed especially for water and wastewater applications. It’s made to be robust in harsher environments, with a transmitter that is easily accessible. One of its distinguishing features is that it offers a “0 × DN” inlet/outlet run version (i.e. no required straight lengths upstream/downstream) and a “full bore” design that avoids constrictions and associated pressure loss.

Accuracy

The standard version gives ±0.5 % of reading plus ±1 mm/s. There's an optional “flat spec” version that improves upon that: ±0.2 % ±2 mm/s.

“0 × DN / Full bore”

This lets you install the meter directly after bends, T-fittings etc., with no need for long straight pipe runs upstream or downstream. That saves space, simplifies installation, and reduces pressure loss.

Wide range sizes and flows

It supports a large nominal diameter range (DN 25 up to DN 3000, i.e. ~1″ to 120″) and flow measurement range from about 0.5 m³/h up to 263,000 m³/h.

Temperature & liner materials

Different liner materials (hard rubber, polyurethane, PTFE) let you adapt to various media temperatures. For example, PTFE liner allows up to +90 °C in some cases.

Pressure ratings & construction

It supports up to PN 40 (Class 300 / 20K) in process pressure. Wetted parts are robust materials: electrodes in stainless steels, Alloy C22, tantalum; sensor housing materials are corrosion-protected.

Operation, diagnostics, verification

It has a compact, dual-compartment transmitter with up to 3 I/Os; backlit display with touch control; remote display option; various connectivity options (fieldbuses etc.). It uses Heartbeat Technology for verification, diagnostic tools, traceability.

Suitability for harsh / hazardous environments

Designed for water/wastewater plants, possibly submerged/underground installation; corrosion protection (per EN ISO 12944) etc. Approvals for drinking water; degree of protection up to IP68.

Where It’s Used

Typical applications include:

  • Municipal wastewater plants (influent/effluent, sludge lines)
  • Drinking water treatment, distribution measurement
  • Industrial water, process water, utility water flow monitoring
  • Situations where space is constrained or straight-pipe run requirements are difficult (after bends, on skid-mounted equipment etc.)

 

Things to Consider / Limitations

While very capable, there are a few considerations:

  • Liner material must be selected appropriately for medium-chemistry, temperature and wear. PTFE is more expensive but handles higher temperatures and more aggressive media.
  • Even though the “0 × DN” option reduces straight-pipe requirements, disturbed flow upstream (e.g. from pumps, valves, elbows) may still impose some challenges; though the Promag W 300 is designed to manage such disturbances better than many flowmeters.
  • Cost may be higher than more basic magmeters, especially when ordering higher accuracy, special liners, or hazardous-area approvals.
  • Installation, maintenance (though low) still requires attention: ensuring electrode cleaning etc., verifying calibration if needed.
